[Photos] Homs: Despite arrival of Russian forces, convoy with displaced people from Quneitra is still blocked (6 hours now). Area NE. of Quseir (S. Homs) belongs to Hezbollah & allied pro-Iran militias (bombed several times by Israel past months). 3,391 ppl inside incl. 1,129 children.
Can they really not use AAA or something? Or at least something smaller than a Patriot? I mean they are shooting at most likely a modified civilian drone.
The debris looks more substantial than a civilian drone
Does the SAA even have proper military drones? It could be Iranian i guess but so far all reports explicitly say Syrian drone.
i thought the patriot was.... not that great at air defence. comparatively to other air defence systems.
i would hope a 2 million dollar missile could take out a 2 thousand dollar drone
That's not how it works. Different AD systems are built for different targets. Intercepting a large object at very long range and high speed is very different from being able to target small and slow objects.
But thats exactly how it worked. 2 mill vs 2k
On 17 July 2016 two Israeli Patriot missiles missed an incoming drone launched from Syria. Israeli Air Defence Command fired two Patriot missiles, but did not manage to destroy the target.
just an example on the questionable reliability of the system.
