Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) is now more popular than Social Democrats (SPD)
Germany's AfD calls for a 'Fortress Europe' at party conference
Same in Sweden pretty much. If you look at the latest election polls SD is now polling as the largest on the two most accurate polls in the last 2 elections (Sentio and Yougov).
Even our own statistics department is expected to post them as second largest party now. All in front of an election in a few months.
This image says it all really. They are almost a perfect inverse of the parties ahead of them in the parliament and reaching parity with the party that has been the traditional leader since the 60s.
Won't everybody else just form a coalition against them, even if they get 49% of the vote?
That’s a self-defeating tactic. It’ll force certain parties ideologically opposed to each other into alliances just to keep the SD out, and proves to the population that for all their trumpeting of Progressive values they would all be willing to trample over the plurality/largest single minority in order to enforce their beliefs. All it would do is push more people to vote for SD until they get an absolute majority, and then what?
They kind of did following the last election, but the supposed opposition (consisting of the traditional right wing parties) took such a hard beating in polls for enabling a left wing government that they had to abandon it.
If it didn't fly when SD was at 13%, it won't fly when they're >25%.
If it came to that, possibly. Of course if they were large enough they would get the first chance to make a move and they could splinter an existing coalition (make the little guy a king maker and give them power).
So far all signs point to no other party cooperating with them (Moderates, the traditional second largest party have said as much in December under their new leader), but they take some policies from them. SD has softened up their stance to look more palatable.
The problem with a super alliance against them is that it sidelines not only this party but a big portion of the electorate. Then there is also the fact that some of these parties sell out their own voters by making a collation with the other side anyway.
They probably will not get into power anyway, but they have a realistic shot at being the second largest or largest in parliament and certainly winning major gains in European elections. This changes the playing field already (as it does in Germany).
We will have to wait and see I guess.
When the populace finds out that all that drama in the last weeks amounted to pretty much nothing, the AfD will grow even more.
The next elections are going to be...interesting.
when the public realizes that the established parties are as incompetent and unprofessional as AfD. (or even more so)
Renzi this week blamed his party for the loss in this election, apparently they needed to approve the "Ius Soli" to make easier tofor the illegal immigrants to become citizens.
His party went from 40% to 18%, and he still control them.
And this is the principal opposition to M5S and the Lega.
How the hell is Renzi still in control? Party leaders in the UK have lost half as badly as him and been promptly ejected by their members.
He obtained 70% of votes in the last primaries after losing his position as PM after a failed referendum, nobody has idea why he is still there, everybody hate him, included his party.
In a way he right: illegal immigrants voting for him against Italians might gave him victory.
Blair opened the floodgates to immigration for the same reason we still ended up with a Tory government.
i used to think this was a meme but do people actually believe this? You flair even says UK so should know how our system works and why what you said is a load of bollocks
Oh come off it, none of them are as openly racist as the AfD.
Also, implying "they're just as bad as the AfD" is about the worst opinion to hold in this regard.
But let's forget all of that & imply these incapable imbeciles that constantly interrupt discussions in the Bundestag with nonsensical remarks are somehow useful politicians.
Germans and the far right. I think I saw that movie.
Time for other, more rational less "feels', generation of leaders on centre-right and centre-left. Or else. And I'm sayiong that as someone who would still not vote for a party like that.
Hate is also a feeling.
If you have motives to support them or vote for them, go ahead. Just don't claim that is a purely rational decision, when it's not - it's hate of Muslims and non whites.
i don't think you need to be told how wrong it is to hate an entire population group.
I think people need to start saying it's ok to hate the book but not the people. The problem is by banning hatred of Islam for any reason you stop any criticism of a backward religion.
The reason in the UK that our Christian churches are all tea parties and church fetes is because of decades of people being allowed to ridicule, joke about and criticise the worst aspects of those religions until they changed.
I did not say anything about banning criticism of religions. The Bible and the Koran are both very problematic in parts. But I do not hate Christians for what is in the bible, and I will not hate Muslims for what is in the Koran. The spectrum of beliefs of members of a religion is so large, that you cannot hate the entire group without being discriminatory.
It's not really that much of an explicit choice now is it?
Every day you still are/consider yourself muslim/christian/atheist... is another day you chose to be that. Yes you were born in a family like that, got morals and (maybe) religious education. Thats the background that you cannot chose. But you can change/drop your religion if you want, at least in Europe you can do that.
I was born in christian orthodox family, got some religious education, morals... . Thats my background, I didn't chose it. But when I was old enough to understand more of this world I realized that is all just a story, hence I'm not a christian anymore.
You can debate that you can't really chose what to believe, you either do or don't. But you can chose to question, to read, to inform, in order to have a chance of some change. Most don't do that though. They get told when they are young what to believe and they never question it. And that is on them.
I don't know what kind of conclusions you think you can draw just from someone calling them self "Muslim".
I would assume that he has read the Quran and is consenting to all the hatred and incitement of murder against non-muslims.
If he is not consenting, he might as well leave islam..., ah, wait, no. He cant. Apostates are facing the death penalty. What a mess.
And why would you assume that? Do you assume the same about Christians, because there are some pretty grim shit in the Bible
There are two Islamic saints who gained sainthood by murdering a jew who mocked Mohammed. Imagine teaching that to young children and you see why cartoonists get killed for a drawing.
Also Old testament vs new testament.
And why would you assume that?
For obvious reasons.
Do you assume the same about Christians
So you are saying a Muslim can't leave Islam even if he hates Islam with all his heart because otherwise he will be killed. And at the same time everyone who is Muslim agree with everything that is in the Quran?
Almost all of them. What percentage of muslims disagrees with the stuff that is written in the quran?
you just rationalized hatred of an entire people. generalizing all of them.
you asumme that all of them hate you, and extend the same sentiment back. thats toxic, and AFD is toxic. it will rip the EU apart.
this made up fear of brown people is retarded. the EU has bigger issues it needs to deal with. and thankfully, i know for a fact, that you are in the minority with that sentiment.
no rational human being will say things like that.
Whats your evidence the refugees hate Germany and Germans?
No, its love for our country.
When the moderates ignore the will of the people the people will turn to those who will listen even if they are extreme. Stop ignoring the people and you'll find parties like the AfD disappear.
I can't even. I told my 1 month old Trump won and now he can't sleep and is crying. Then he said "gaga" which sounded like "MAGA" and I started hyperventilating and had to call work to demand they let me take my therapy ferret in tomorrow. I'm only able to type this because I ate some medicinal edibles. I can't afford my hair dye and I'm so scared because there isn't a nearby gender neutral school for my baby person.
If AfD gets to Power Hungary and Italy are going to be the first countries to experience the negative impact of the AfD, then after a while it will hit Germany
So much for the hypocritical german response to trump.
